Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX, REM Surface Engineering Successfully Develop Surface Finishing/Polishing Processes for ELEMENTUM 3D

Brenham, Texas, (August 13, 2020) – REM Surface Engineering in collaboration with the Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX, successfully developed surface finishing/polishing processes for ELEMENTUM 3D’s A6061-RAM2 aluminum alloy.

REM’s Chemical-Mechanical Polishing & Chemical Polishing technologies are >3x & >60x faster respectively than traditional, abrasive finishing operations for A6061-RAM2. Capable of producing highly polished surfaces with Ra values below 0.8 µm/32 µin, REM’s post-processing solutions are optimized for your Metal AM applications.

The AFRL & AFWERX partnered to streamline the Small Business Innovation Research process in an attempt to speed up the experience, broaden the pool of potential applicants and decrease bureaucratic overhead. Beginning in SBIR 18.2, and now in 20.1, the Air Force has begun offering ‘Special’ SBIR topics that are faster, leaner, and open to a broader range of innovations.
